POPE BENEDICT XVI

Apostolic Journey to the United States

Prayer for the Holy Father

Lord, source of eternal life and truth, give to

Your shepherd, Pope Benedict, a spirit of

courage and right judgment, a spirit of

knowledge and love.

By governing with fidelity those entrusted to

his care, may he, as successor to the apostle

Peter and Vicar of Christ, build Your Church

into a sacrament of unity, love, and peace

We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ,

Your Son, Who lives and reigns with You

and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and

ever. Amen.

CCD TRIP TO SHRINE OF DIVINE MERCY IN STOCKBRIDGE

The middle and high school CCD classes are invited on a class trip, Saturday, April 12th, to the Shrine of the Divine Mercy in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, about an hour from here. This is a wonderful opportunity for a glimpse into another side of Catholic life, a chance to experience the sacredness of such a shrine in a beautiful setting, and a time for fun and relaxation with each other. Parents should have gotten a flyer from CCD last week, and need to call the office at 586-1111 to let us know if your son or daughter will or will not be attending. This is the first time we have tried to do such a trip and we are hoping that many kids can take advantage of it and come. In our busy lives of sports and school and work and activities, it is sometimes hard to make room for the sacred. Parents are also welcome as chaperones and drivers.

To learn more about the Shrine of Divine Mercy, you can go to their web site at http://www.marian.org/shrine/.

OFFICE OF THE BISHOP

Diocese of Springfield

Dear Friends in Christ,

Each Easter season is an opportunity to celebrate the fullness of Christ's communication of God's love for us. His Resurrection conveys that message in a way that is beyond words.

We are blessed in the Diocese of Springfield to be able to spread the good news of that message through the Catholic Communications ministry. Through the Chalice of Salvation each Sunday morning for 51 years, the elders and homebound of our diocesan family have felt consoled, inspired and connected to their local Catholic community through the broadcast of the Sunday Mass.

Our award winning newspaper, The Catholic Observer, our weekly news magazine program, Real to Reel, the monthly newsletter, Despartar Latino, the weekly radio program, Voz Catolica, and www.iobserve.org, our updated news and information web site, make use of the technologies of today to communicate Christ's living message of hope.

Your on-going support is needed to assist in the cost and continuation of our communication efforts. On the weekend of April12 and 13, we will be asking our parishes for that support. We will be seeking your help in keeping our programming on the air, our faith-based stories in print and on line, and the Good News proclaimed as alive and vibrant throughout the diocese.

Please prayerfully consider the valuable work of our Catholic Communications ministry and help these efforts. With gratitude for the constancy of your generosity and faith in the Resurrection.

In Christ,

Most Reverend Timothy A. McDonnell+

Bishop of Springfield

"They recognized Him in the breaking of the bread." Through the ministry of priesthood, brotherhood or sisterhood, people will continue to find Jesus. If you think He may be calling you to a Church vocation, call Fr. Gary Dailey at 413-452-0811 or e-mail: gdailey@diospringfield.org

They returned to Jerusalem where they found gathered together the eleven and those with them who were saying, "The Lord has truly been raised and has appeared to Simon!" Then the two recounted what had taken place on the way and how he was made known to them in the breaking of the bread. – Lk 24:33-35
