FREE CHAPEL CONCERT AT PROVIDENCE PLACE
Sunday, December 13, 2009 - A free concert in Our Mother of Sorrows Chapel is a special Christmas Candlelight Concert at 2:30 PM on Sunday, December 13th. This return performance of the stirring Trinity Chamber Singers, Janet Dixon-Metcalf, flutist, and the Trinity Handbell Choir of Springfield's Trinity United Methodist Church is directed by Becky Isaacson. Titled "Carols from Around the World," the program features treasured carols from across the centuries.
SEASONAL MUSIC AT ST. MARY'S
Sunday, December 13, 2009 - The Da Camera Singers, under the direction of Sheila Heffernon, will present seasonal music for chorus, brass and organ on Sunday, December 13th at 3:00 PM, at St. Mary of the Assumption Church.
Da Camera will recreate the splendor of antiphonal music heard in St. Mark's in Venice during the Baroque, performing multi-chorus works by Schuetz, Praetorius and Pachelbel. Also on the program are a cappella works by Dufay, Rossi and Thompson, and the featured work, the Christmas Cantata by Massachusetts composer, Daniel Pinkham. Da Camera will be joined by a brass quartet and organist Karen Guthrie.
The Da Camera Singers have been performing in the valley for 36 years. Sheila Heffernon is the chair of the performing arts department and director of choral music at Northfield Mount Hermon School.
Admission is free; donations are welcome.
CANDLELIGHT PRAYER SERVICE
Sunday, December 13, 2009 - The Marriage and Family Life Office of the Springfield Diocese is sponsoring a Candle Light Prayer remembrance Service at 7:00 PM on December 13, 2009, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 47 Pine St., West Springfield. This is in spirit with "The Compassionate Friends Worldwide Catholic Lighting" held annually the second Sunday in December. This prayer service is for the families and friends who wish to remember children of theirs who have died at any age from any cause. Following the service all are invited to gather for coffee and light refreshments in the Parish Center. For more information please call Deacon Jim Conroy at 413-452-0614.
ADULT CONFIRMATION SESSIONS
February - March 2009 - A series of four sessions for adult Catholics who wish to receive the sacrament of Confirmation will be offered at St. Mary's High School, 27 Bartlett St., Westfield, on Thursdays, February 11, 25, March 11, 25, all 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM, with the opportunity of a retreat on a Saturday morning, location and time TBA. Registration forms, which require the pastor's signature, are available from our Religious Education office or from the diocesan Office of Religious Education, 65 Elliot St., P.O.
